Fast‑track Growth and New Standards
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda praised the meteoric rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, noting that the campus has already outstripped its original target of 750 beds and is now operating with 776 beds. In a remarkably short span, the institute has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty programmes, covering everything from complex cardiac catheterisations to cutting‑edge radiotherapy and neurosurgical procedures.
Surge in Patient Turn‑out
The outpatient department (OPD) has logged more than 12 lakh consultations over the last four years, while inpatient admissions have crossed the one‑lakh threshold. During the 2024‑25 financial year alone, OPD visits exceeded three lakh and diagnostic examinations topped ten lakh, reflecting the community’s growing confidence in the facility’s capabilities.
Academic Achievements and Leadership Milestones
AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its first MBBS cohort in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation marked the graduation of that inaugural batch, a landmark event for the institute’s teaching mission. President Droupadi Murmu, who graced the ceremony, urged the new doctors to centre their practice on service to humanity and to extend quality care to the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.
Expansion of Clinical Capabilities
Beyond the increase in bed strength, the hospital now delivers a comprehensive suite of high‑end services: major surgeries, cardiac interventions, dialysis, extensive diagnostic testing, and a dedicated oncology wing. Faculty and staff have been lauded for achieving this scale of growth at a speed that typically takes newer AIIMS campuses many more years to realise.
Future Outlook
Minister Nadda voiced confidence that within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the nation’s flagship AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and patient‑centred care is poised to cement its status as a premier hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
