Nomination Lodged at the State Assembly
On Tuesday, senior BJP figure Dinesh Arya formally entered the contest for Uttarakhand’s only Rajya Sabha seat by submitting his nomination papers at the Dehradun Legislative Assembly. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state BJP president Mahendra Bhatt, several ministers, legislators and party veterans.
Arya’s Political Background
Originating from Nainital district and representing the Scheduled Caste community, Arya has been a dedicated party activist for years. He previously led the BJP’s Nainital district unit and held prominent positions within the party’s Scheduled Caste Morcha. Currently, he chairs the Uttarakhand State‑Level Drinking Water Monitoring Council as a minister‑ranked vice‑chairperson and also serves as the Chief Minister’s Public Relations Officer.
Chief Minister’s Commendation
Following the filing, CM Dhami lauded Arya as a hard‑working cadre who rose through the ranks thanks to consistent commitment. He noted that selecting a candidate from a modest background reflects the pathways available to party members who continually serve the organization. Dhami also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the national leadership for backing Arya’s candidacy.
What It Means for the Upcoming Vote
The poll for Uttarakhand’s solitary Rajya Sabha seat is scheduled for 16 October. The sitting BJP MP Naresh Bansal will step down on 25 November when his term ends. Given the BJP’s strong majority in the state assembly, Arya’s triumph is widely anticipated, sending a clear message to party workers about the rewards of steadfast organizational service.
