Firozpur. Anticipating a massive spike in passenger flow during the festive period, Northern Railway has launched a dedicated special service between Firozpur Cantt and Purnia to ease travel for those heading to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Train numbers and frequency
The special runs under the numbers 04634/04633 Firozpur Cantt‑Purnia‑Firozpur Cantt Special and will operate eight times in each direction. Departures from Firozpur are scheduled every Thursday from 8 October to 26 November, while the return trips from Purnia will leave every Saturday from 10 October to 28 November.
Timetable for the two legs
According to railway officials, train 04634 will depart Firozpur Cantt at 17:30 and arrive in Purnia around 03:00 after a roughly 33‑hour‑30‑minute journey.
On the return, train 04633 is slated to leave Purnia at 06:00, reaching Firozpur Cantt at about 16:35 the following day, covering the distance in approximately 34‑hours‑35‑minutes.

The special train traverses a corridor that cuts across Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, stopping at vital interchange points such as Makhu, Lohian Khas, Nakodar, Phillaur, Dhandari Kalan, Chandigarh, Ambala Cantt, Yamunanagar‑Jagadhri, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Chhapra, Sonpur, Hajipur, Shahpur Patori, Barauni, Begusarai, Khagaria, Mansi, Naugachia and Katihar.
This extensive list of halts ensures that passengers travelling between the north‑west and the eastern heartland enjoy direct connectivity during the peak holiday rush.
Coach composition
The rake will comprise 16 coaches: five air‑conditioned 3‑tier coaches, six non‑AC sleeper coaches and five general‑class coaches.
Railway officials highlighted that the extra service is designed to relieve congestion on regular trains and give holiday‑bound travelers an additional, comfortable option.
With Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath approaching, demand on the Punjab‑to‑UP‑Bihar corridor is projected to stay high. The special train is expected to be a boon for commuters planning journeys during this festive window.
