Overview
Within ten days, three unrelated women were found dead in different hotel rooms across Hyderabad. Each incident involved a pair of guests checking in together, prompting authorities to re‑examine how hotels verify identification documents.
Miyapur: medical student discovered dead
A 27‑year‑old postgraduate medical student was reported missing by her family. Tracing her mobile signal brought police to a Miyapur hotel where her body was recovered.
Investigators say she had met a man through a social‑media platform and was staying with him. The suspect remains at large, and officials are reviewing CCTV footage and other hotel records to locate him.
SR Nagar: bank employee’s demise raises verification concerns
In SR Nagar, a 34‑year‑old bank customer‑care executive was found dead after checking into a hotel with a male companion who left the premises in the early hours.
Police allege the man used a forged government ID at the reception. The case has sparked renewed scrutiny of hotel verification practices. Investigators are analysing video recordings and additional evidence while searching for the alleged perpetrator.
Madhapur: third fatality
On September 22, a 29‑year‑old woman was discovered unconscious in a Madhapur hotel. She was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities later identified the man who had been staying with her, arrested him in Visakhapatnam, and are now probing the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police directives for hotels
In response to the three tragedies, Hyderabad police have issued new guidelines for all hotels and lodges:
- Verify Aadhaar and other government‑issued IDs on the spot, rather than merely recording the details supplied by guests.
- Exercise heightened vigilance when two guests check in together but only one departs, and immediately flag such occurrences.
- Maintain accurate guest registers and retain CCTV footage for the legally mandated period.
The Telangana Hotels Association has urged its members to strictly adhere to these verification procedures. Police warn that any negligence could result in legal action against hotel management.
