Karachi – In the secluded hamlet of Rathi, close to Nagarparkar in Sindh, a Hindu shrine was forcibly entered and its sacred icons smashed on Monday night. The temple’s caretaker awoke to find shattered statues the following morning and promptly alerted local law‑enforcement.

Suspect placed in custody

Shiva Kaachi, president of the Pakistan Darawar Ittehad NGO, confirmed that authorities have taken a man into custody whom they believe to be the main offender. No further details about the individual’s identity or the exact circumstances of his arrest have been disclosed.

The temple’s place in a predominantly Hindu district

Although modest in scale, the Mata Jog Maya Temple is one of numerous small worship sites scattered across villages surrounding Nagarparkar, an area with a significant Hindu population. These shrines act as focal points for prayer, festivals and community gatherings.

Investigation remains ongoing

Investigators are assessing the full extent of the damage and exploring whether additional participants were involved. The police continue to collect forensic evidence, interview locals and piece together a timeline of the incident.

Earlier comparable attacks

Earlier this year, the Kali Mata Temple in Hyderabad’s Fateh Chowk district suffered a similar act of vandalism, sparking protests and road blockades by Pakistan’s Hindu community. Recurrent assaults have reignited worries about the protection of minority religious sites across Sindh.
