At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, an unidentified group hurled bricks at the Shree Swaminarayan Vadtal Dham Hindu temple in Richmond Heights, Ohio. The projectiles shattered multiple windows and left noticeable damage inside the sanctuary while priests and worshippers were present.

Law Enforcement and Federal Partners Examine the Incident

Local police are scrutinizing the temple’s surveillance footage to reconstruct the timeline and identify the assailants. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) confirmed that the video has been turned over to investigators and that the case is also being reviewed by the FBI and civil‑rights officials.

To date, no suspect has been publicly named, and no arrests have been reported.

Community Leaders Demand an Expedited, Open Inquiry

National Hindu organizations, including the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), have urged authorities to act quickly, hold perpetrators accountable, and publicly condemn the assault. CoHNA specifically called on Richmond Heights Mayor Kim Thomas and other local officials to denounce the attack and reassure the Hindu community of its safety.

While some groups suspect a hate‑motivated crime, law enforcement has not yet confirmed a bias motive.

No Injuries Reported Despite the Chaos

Fortunately, the incident did not result in any physical injuries. The primary damage consists of broken windows and other property impairments, which temple staff are still cataloguing.

HAF has pressed officials to locate those responsible and issue a strong public statement against any rhetoric that threatens Hindu or Indian‑American communities.

Historical Vandalism of Hindu Temples Cited

CoHNA referenced previous vandalism cases involving Hindu temples in New York and California, noting that each incident occurred under distinct circumstances. While these events raise concerns, they remain separate investigations and do not alone establish a nationwide trend.

The Richmond Heights case remains active as authorities continue to analyze video evidence and pursue leads to determine whether religious bias played a role.
