Dehradun – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially launched a suite of development works worth ₹20.55 crore at the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University campus in Selaqui. The ceremony marked the foundation‑laying for three flagship projects valued at ₹20.21 crore and the inauguration of two smaller initiatives costing a combined ₹34 lakh.
New Infrastructure Takes Shape on Campus
The announced undertakings comprise a new administrative block, a contemporary amphitheatre, and a “Nakshatra Vatika” – a garden themed around constellations. In addition, the chief minister opened the university’s revamped main entrance gate and a cutting‑edge dental hospital.
During the event, CM Dhami offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati, placed flowers at the statue of the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, and paid homage to his enduring legacy. He emphasized that the university is a crucible for training the next generation of medical professionals and that the fresh facilities will enrich academic life while catalyzing regional growth.
Dhami underscored Uttarakhand’s resolve to produce skilled doctors, nurses, and allied‑health workers, noting that the medical fraternity bears a profound social duty – saving lives and restoring hope. He added that compassion, sensitivity, and dedication remain the core virtues of the profession.
The chief minister also disclosed that a proposal for a super‑speciality hospital on the university grounds has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Health, with further action pending central approval.
Healthcare Network Expands Across the State
In line with the national drive to enhance health services, Uttarakhand is fortifying its own infrastructure. The state currently runs five government medical colleges, two more under construction, nine nursing colleges, and three nursing schools.
Super‑speciality services are being upgraded at the medical colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar. A high‑tech cancer institute is under development in Haldwani, while district hospitals and community health centres are receiving systematic upgrades.
In Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar, a ₹351 crore AIIMS satellite centre is taking shape to deliver world‑class care to a large catchment area. Tele‑medicine platforms and helicopter ambulance services are further bridging gaps for remote populations, and the government is intensifying recruitment and training of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff for its public hospitals.
Uttarakhand Youth Finding Opportunities Abroad
The state’s foreign‑language training programmes are opening doors to overseas employment. In 2023, sixty candidates secured placements in Japan, while thirteen were placed in Germany in 2025. One notable success story is Sapna Rana, who landed a role in Germany after completing German‑language training.
Graduates from Uttarakhand’s institutions are also making their mark in prestigious Indian establishments such as AIIMS, PGI, the Indian Railways and the Military Nursing Service.
More Than 35,000 Government Jobs Created in Five Years
Dhami reiterated the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the future of the state’s youth. A stringent anti‑copying law now governs recruitment examinations, ensuring transparency. Over the past five years, more than 35,000 young Uttarakhandis have entered government service through merit‑based selections.
Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal affirmed that the government continues to invest in modern infrastructure for medical colleges, guaranteeing high‑quality education and training for students.
