Initial claim of an electric shock
On 3 October, staff at BPS Khanpur Hospital informed local police that a woman identified as Ramashwari appeared to have suffered an electric shock inside a flat in Sector 15, Sonipat. When officers arrived, they found the deceased’s daughter Janvi, a man named Vishal, and several other relatives gathered at the scene.
Janvi repeatedly urged the police to forgo a full post‑mortem, insisting the injury was confined to a shock that entered through Ramashwari’s left hand. Vishal echoed her request and suggested that any examination be limited to that hand alone.
After explaining the legal necessity of a comprehensive autopsy, the family reluctantly agreed. Because the examination could not be performed immediately, the body was stored in a freezer until the next‑day post‑mortem could be conducted.
Post‑mortem findings overturn the accident story
The medical examiner’s report contradicted the family’s version. Rather than signs of electrocution, the autopsy showed that Ramashwari died from suffocation, with distinct bruising and pressure marks around her mouth and neck.
These revelations prompted investigators to treat the case as a potential homicide and to re‑examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Suspects, relationships and possible motive
Further inquiry revealed that Janvi and Vishal were in a romantic relationship and were sharing the rented accommodation with Ramashwari. Police suspect that the mother’s disapproval of the couple’s plans to marry may have generated tension that escalated.
Vishal was subsequently taken into custody. During interrogation he gave a detailed account of the events on 3 October, which investigators are cross‑checking against forensic evidence and the autopsy report.
Forensic evidence and ongoing probe
A forensic team inspected the flat where the death occurred. Items recovered included a double‑bed sheet bearing what appears to be blood stains and an electrical extension cord—both being examined as possible attempts to stage an electrocution.
The case has been formally logged at the Sector 27 police station, with ASI Sanjeev appointed as the investigating officer. Police say they are now matching the medical findings with the physical evidence gathered from the scene and the statements of those involved to reconstruct the exact sequence of events.
Investigators stress that the inquiry remains open, and they will continue to analyse all forensic material, recovered objects, and witness testimonies before drawing final conclusions.
