Dehradun. On Tuesday, Graphic Era University became the launchpad for the Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026, a nationwide call to create technology‑driven answers for the state’s geographic and social hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister of Information Technology, Science & Technology and Biotechnology, and attracted roughly 500 participants ranging from students and teachers to seasoned engineers and budding creators.
Spanning 90 days, the competition seeks to fuse youthful ingenuity with real‑world problems faced by Uttarakhand. Contestants will be tasked with building prototypes in sectors such as disaster mitigation, traffic and crowd control, health‑care outreach, environmental stewardship, wildlife preservation, tourism promotion, and transparent governance.
Key technology streams include artificial intelligence, data analytics, geographic information systems (GIS) and unmanned aerial vehicles. Expected deliverables cover AI‑powered government knowledge bases, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enhanced GIS mapping, environmental impact analysis, AI‑assisted preparation of DPRs and RFPs, and drone‑based aerial surveillance.
Minister Batra emphasized that Uttarakhand’s youth and academic institutions hold the creative fire needed to solve the state’s unique challenges. He urged participants to channel their technical skills toward practical solutions that improve everyday life for citizens.
The hackathon will progress through stages: problem definition, idea generation, prototype building, mentorship from domain experts, and final evaluation. Winning teams will gain access to pilot testing, incubation support, and industry partnerships.
Specific focus areas include forecasting traffic loads during peak pilgrimage seasons, monitoring ecological stress, pinpointing disaster‑prone zones, and bolstering emergency response. The programme will also explore ways to deliver government services to remote mountain communities through digital platforms.
Organisers stress that the competition will prioritize citizen‑centric, responsible innovation. The event is co‑ordinated by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in partnership with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a network of institutional and ecosystem collaborators, aiming to nurture home‑grown tech solutions by linking academia, government, the tech community and young innovators.
