Upcoming Weather Situation
The state’s meteorological agency has placed Uttarakhand under a yellow warning from October 6 through 11. During this window the mountainous zones will see a blend of rain, thunder and even snow at the highest peaks, while the lower plains are expected to stay largely dry.
Snowfall Forecast
Weather Director Dr. C.S. Tomar indicated that snowfall could start in areas above 4,200 metres between Oct 6‑8. By Oct 9‑11 the snow‑covered band is likely to sink to roughly 3,800 metres, ushering a pronounced chill to the upper slopes.
Hill Districts Under Yellow Warning
Seven high‑altitude districts have been earmarked for heightened vigilance:
- Chamoli
- Nainital
- Pithoragarh
- Bageshwar
- Almora
- Rudraprayag
- Uttarkashi
These regions may experience gusty winds of 30‑40 km/h, frequent thunderstorms and a risk of lightning strikes.
Rainfall and Thunderstorm Outlook
Scattered light to moderate rain is forecast across several mountain stretches, bringing occasional gusts, thunder and lightning. The service also expects moderate rain on Oct 6‑7 for Nainital, Champawat, Almora, Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri, with thunderstorms likely accompanying the showers.
Temperature Changes
Where snow settles, temperatures will drop noticeably. In contrast, the lower‑lying plains should enjoy milder and drier conditions throughout the alert period.
