Kurukshetra: After a relentless five‑day hunt, the lifeless body of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage worker from Ismailabad was retrieved from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to the village of Kirmich.

How the Body Was Found and Confirmed

Local inhabitants noticed a lifeless figure near a canal siphon and immediately called in divers. Diver Pragat Singh led the team that pulled the corpse from the water. Police cross‑checked the recovered body with missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, which led to a positive identification.

The deceased was recognized as Dharmbir, affectionately called “Bablu” by neighbours. His father, Lal Chand, and his brother arrived at the site, verified the identity, and handed the remains over to the authorities. The body was then taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a forensic autopsy.

Family’s Account of His Disappearance

According to relatives, Dharmbir left home on the afternoon of 1 October and never returned. After scouring nearby fields, roads, and construction sites, the family reported his disappearance to the Ismailabad police station.

His father revealed that Dharmbir had been experiencing personal stress for several weeks and often complained of severe hand pain due to the physically demanding nature of his labor.

Dharmbir was the sole provider for three daughters, aged between 18 months and twelve years. He lived separately from his brothers, and no known feuds or adversaries were mentioned by the family.

Police Follow‑Up

Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar of the Karnal‑Uttam‑Kumar (KUK) police force confirmed that officers arrived at the canal after receiving a tip about a possible body. Following the family’s identification, the corpse was forwarded for a post‑mortem.

Investigators said that the next steps of the case will hinge on the autopsy results and any further evidence uncovered during the ongoing inquiry.
