Prayer at Gurdwara Nanakmatta Sahib
Dehradun – On Monday, Uttarakhand’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, visited Gurdwara Nanakmatta Sahib to offer his respects. He knelt before the holy shrine, invoking peace, prosperity and the welfare of every Uttarakhand resident. In acknowledgement of his presence, the gurdwara’s managing committee presented him with a traditional siropa and a commemorative token.
Joining the Clean‑Up Drive
After the prayer ceremony, the chief minister rolled up his sleeves and took part in a practical cleanliness campaign organised on the gurdwara premises under the banner of Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. He worked side‑by‑side with volunteers, sweeping, scrubbing and engaging in shramdaan, stressing that cleanliness must become a habit rather than a one‑off event.
Shared Duty for Public Areas
Speaking to the assembled crowd, Dhami highlighted that safeguarding the sanctity of religious sites and maintaining their surroundings is a collective responsibility. He cautioned against confining such efforts to places of worship alone, urging citizens to extend the same care to bus terminals, railway stations, hospitals, government offices and all public venues.
He noted that Uttarakhand enjoys a prominent position on India’s religious and tourism maps, attracting countless pilgrims and travelers each year. Sustaining cleanliness at these high‑traffic hubs, he said, hinges on continuous public participation.
Service, Participation and the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan
The chief minister linked the activity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for greater public service. He observed that the pillars of service, cleanliness and community involvement have gained momentum under the Prime Minister’s leadership.

The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, launched in Uttarakhand on September 17 to commemorate the Prime Minister’s birthday, comprises a series of programmes centred on service, citizen dialogue and innovative solutions. The Nanakmatta clean‑up formed an integral part of this wider movement.
Cleanliness as an Ongoing Movement
Dhami warned that cleanliness should never be limited to a single event or campaign. He called for sustained citizen involvement, turning hygiene into a daily lifestyle choice. According to him, coordinated public action can keep temples, tourist spots and civic facilities clean, welcoming and dignified.
Attendees
The event attracted a large gathering of officials, gurdwara committee members and devotees. Prominent participants included District Panchayat President Ajay Maurya, BJP District President Kamal Jindal, Nagar Panchayat President Prem Singh Turna, former MLA Prem Singh Rana, Gurdwara Management Committee President Sardar Jogendra Singh, General Secretary Sardar Amarjeet Singh Boparay, District Magistrate Nitin Singh Bhadauria, SSP Ajay Ganpati and Chief Development Officer Divesh Shasni.
