The complainant says the accused initially presented himself as a Hindu while establishing a friendship. As the bond deepened, she discovered that he was actually a Muslim. Upon learning his true faith, she alleges he began urging her to adopt Islam and to become his wife.
She further alleges that the man threatened to upload intimate photographs of her to social media if she refused, adding intimidation to his alleged demands.

Champawat police officials responded swiftly. Following directions from the Superintendent of Police, investigators logged the matter under the relevant legal sections and launched a comprehensive inquiry.

The person taken into custody has been identified as Nishad Khan, son of Naseeb Hussain, a 22‑year‑old resident of Manihargoth, Tanakpur.
