Case Summary

Authorities in Prayagraj are probing the death of 17‑year‑old Shantanu, a resident of Kohna, whose remains were retrieved from a drain close to Soham Ashram in the Haveliya area of the Jhunsi police zone.

Phone Call Prompted the Exit

Family members say Shantanu received a phone call on Monday night. Shortly thereafter, he left the house on his scooter and did not return.

When hours passed without any trace of him, relatives grew worried and began searching that night, continuing into the early hours of Tuesday.

Scooter Leads Searchers to the Drain

During the morning sweep, relatives noticed Shantanu’s scooter parked beside the drain near Soham Ashram. While examining the spot, they found the teenager lying face‑down inside the drainage channel.

The shocking discovery devastated the family, who promptly informed the police.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Officers from the Jhunsi police station arrived, secured the scene, and launched an inquiry to piece together the events between Shantanu’s departure and the moment he was found.

Investigators are concentrating on the phone call he received, attempting to identify the caller, trace his movements after leaving home, and locate any individuals who may have interacted with him during the night.

Autopsy to Ascertain Cause of Death

At this stage, the precise cause of death remains undetermined. Police have begun questioning nearby residents, gathering forensic evidence, and are treating the case as potentially violent while also exploring other possibilities.

A post‑mortem examination has been scheduled, and its results are expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s demise.

Family Awaits Answers

Shantanu was the younger of two brothers; his elder sibling is Anmol. Their mother, Rekha Devi, passed away in 2018.

The family now awaits the investigation and autopsy findings to understand how their son met this tragic end.

Police have affirmed that the probe remains active and further details will emerge as evidence, witness statements, and medical reports are examined.
