Agra: Uttar Pradesh police have taken a woman into custody over a serious assault reported almost 11 months ago in the Barhan area of Agra. The accused is alleged to have attacked her brother‑in‑law after he purportedly declined to marry her sister.
Incident Details
The alleged attack occurred on the night of 20 October 2025, shortly after Diwali celebrations. The victim, employed as a chemical assistant engineer at a cement plant in Haldwani, had returned home for the festival.
Victim Attacked Inside a Room
According to the FIR, the man was sleeping outside the house after the Diwali puja when his sister‑in‑law summoned him to a bedroom around 2 a.m. Police say she then assaulted him with a blade, inflicting serious wounds.
The victim’s cries awakened other family members, who rushed to his aid. Law‑enforcement officials arrived, and the injured man was rushed to SN Medical College for emergency care. Because of the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to AIIMS Delhi for further treatment.
Suspect’s Flight and Arrest
Following the assault, the woman’s husband reportedly escorted her to her parental home in Etah. She remained away from the village and evaded police attempts to locate her.
After persistent investigation, officers finally traced her to the residence of a relative and placed her under arrest.
Legal Action
DCP West Zone Aditya Singh stated that the medical examination confirmed the injuries were grave and could have been life‑threatening. Consequently, the police have added an attempt‑to‑murder charge to the case.
