New Delhi – Authorities have taken a 56‑year‑old man into custody after a Class‑6 pupil reported being sexually assaulted inside a small shop in the bustling Sadar Bazar district.

According to police statements, the girl stepped out of school to buy school‑supply items. While inside the shop, the accused is said to have bound her hands and feet, preventing her escape, and then committed the sexual act.

Legal action taken

Following the victim’s formal complaint, investigators registered a case at the women’s police station. Charges include offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with rape, and wrongful confinement.

Arrest and ongoing probe

The suspect, identified as Maqsood, was arrested on Friday. Detectives are now gathering forensic evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing any available CCTV footage to build a solid case.

"We are treating this as a serious violation of a minor’s rights and will pursue every legal avenue to ensure justice," a police spokesperson said.
