Dehradun. In response to a spate of collisions on the Mohabbewala stretch, the district administration and police have intensified their road‑safety drive. Following the accident reported on 20 September, the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police conducted a joint field inspection of the Delhi‑Dehradun Highway on 21 September.
Comprehensive technical probe mandated
The officials instructed the relevant agencies to launch an in‑depth, technical investigation of the incidents that have plagued Mohabbewala. The study will examine road‑design parameters, identified black‑spot locations, speeding trends, and violations of traffic regulations, ensuring a holistic view rather than attributing the problem to a single cause.
Findings from this probe will feed into a detailed action plan aimed at mitigating hazards and curbing future mishaps on the highway.
Road engineering and black‑spot analysis
During the walk‑through, the team asked engineers to scrutinise the pavement layout and pinpoint any structural deficiencies that could be contributing to accidents. Particular attention will be given to notorious black‑spot zones, with recommendations to be folded into the forthcoming remedial strategy.
Speeding and rule‑breaker assessment
Overspeeding and other traffic infractions are also slated for review. Officials have been tasked with monitoring vehicle flow and driver behaviour in the vicinity to identify speed‑related risks and other violations that may be aggravating the danger.
The administration stressed that infrastructure upgrades and enforcement actions must be synchronised for maximum impact.
Installation of large warning boards
To raise driver awareness, the authorities will erect oversized warning signboards ahead of the high‑risk segment. These signs are intended to alert motorists well before they reach the problematic stretch, prompting them to adjust speed and stay vigilant.
Rumble strips to be deployed
In addition, rumble strips will be placed at strategic points along the road. The tactile feedback is designed to compel drivers to decelerate and proceed with greater caution through the danger zone.
Rapid rollout of the action plan
The DM and SSP have demanded that the prepared action plan move from paper to pavement without delay. All involved departments are required to collaborate closely and prioritise the implementation of the safety measures.
Stakeholders present at the joint inspection
Representatives from the district administration, NHAI, the Regional Transport Office and the police participated in the inspection, sharing observations on road conditions, traffic patterns and safety challenges.
