Trainee’s grievance filed
The Kanke police have opened a criminal case after a clinical‑psychology trainee at the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) in Ranchi alleged that a fellow student assaulted her inside the institute’s postgraduate hostel.
Details disclosed in the FIR
The complainant, a clinical‑psychology trainee, was residing in the institute’s postgraduate hostel when she entered Room 54 on the night of 28 June to conduct psychometry, a method of psychological measurement. She reports that she began to feel light‑headed shortly thereafter.
According to her statement, the accused—identified as Sarthak Chaudhary, an M.Phil. candidate from the same department—offered her water from a steel bottle. She claims that after drinking it, her condition deteriorated, leaving her confused about the events that followed.
Alleged wrongdoing
The trainee alleges that Chaudhary instructed her to lie on the bed. When she resisted, he allegedly locked the door, forced her to stay inside, and proceeded to sexually assault her without consent. She also says she was restrained throughout the ordeal.
After the incident
The complainant states she was allowed to exit the room around 5 a.m. on 29 June. Overcome by fear and emotional shock, she did not approach the authorities immediately. She later reported the matter to the police and demanded legal action against the alleged perpetrator.
Police action
Kanke police have formally registered an FIR and are collecting all pertinent evidence. Investigators intend to review CCTV footage from the hostel corridors and the interior of Room 54, as well as obtain call‑detail records and location data for the period surrounding the alleged assault.
All collected material will be examined to reconstruct the timeline and verify the trainee’s allegations. The investigation remains active, and any findings will be addressed through the judicial system.
Future steps
The probe is ongoing. Should the evidence substantiate the trainee’s account, the accused could face charges under India’s sexual‑offence laws.
