Dehradun. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the International Day of Older Persons ceremony at the Himalayan Cultural Centre in Neembuwala, Dehradun, on Thursday. The event marked the launch of a specialised civil‑services coaching programme aimed at candidates with disabilities, and also recognised 23 senior citizens for their outstanding contributions across diverse fields.

Five young participants who secured top positions in essay and painting contests were honoured alongside the seniors.

₹147.34 Crore Pension Distributed in One Click

The Chief Minister authorised the September pension payouts through an automated, single‑click payment gateway. In total, 9,93,886 pensioners received ₹147 crore 34 lakh 53 thousand under the scheme.

During the ceremony, Dhami reaffirmed his commitment to senior‑citizen welfare, took a pledge for their well‑being, and planted a sapling as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.

“Senior Citizens Are the Protective Shield of Families”

Addressing the gathering, Dhami extended heartfelt wishes to the elderly on the International Day of Older Persons and prayed for their continued health and longevity.

He highlighted that seniors provide families with a sense of security, transmitting values and life lessons to younger generations. Describing them as a “protective shield,” he said their presence nurtures discipline, affection and emotional bonding within households.
