Jamui. The principal accused in the Jamui incident involving the alleged molestation and assault of two under‑age students suffered a gunshot wound to his leg during a police encounter on Tuesday. Nandan Yadav was hit during the operation, taken into custody and rushed to Jamui Sadar Hospital for medical care. The development follows a video of the alleged crime that went viral on social media, igniting public outrage.
According to investigations, the episode unfolded on 19 September when a group of men purportedly intercepted the two minors. The confrontation was captured on a smartphone, and the footage later spread online, prompting authorities to identify the participants and commence arrests. Earlier, police had detained three suspects and constituted a Special Investigation Team to probe the matter.
Police Raid and Encounter
During the latest sweep, law‑enforcement units conducted raids along the Jamui‑Lakhisarai border, near Kunder, to locate the remaining alleged perpetrators. Sources said the accused tried to flee when officers confronted them, leading to an exchange of fire in which Nandan Yadav sustained a leg injury. He was subsequently transferred to the district hospital for treatment.
Another suspect, identified as Hareram Yadav, was also reported injured in the same operation. Details about his condition and the precise circumstances of his injury remain under investigation.
Official Response
District Magistrate Naveen Kumar visited the hospital after the encounter, receiving briefings from officials on the evolving situation. Police continue to conduct house‑to‑house searches to apprehend the remaining fugitives and are scrutinising the events that led to the shoot‑out.

The case drew national attention after the alleged harassment video circulated widely. Investigators have been analysing the clip to pinpoint each participant’s role while also taking steps to protect the identity of the minor victims.
The National Commission for Women has taken suo‑motu cognisance of the incident and urged swift action. Police maintain that the investigation is ongoing, with teams working tirelessly to bring all accused to justice and to reconstruct the full chronology of the crime.
"Our priority is to ensure that the victims receive justice and that any remaining perpetrators are apprehended," said a senior police official.
