New Delhi – A disturbing incident involving the alleged gang‑rape of a 17‑year‑old girl has surfaced from the Astha Kunj vicinity of Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple. Local police have taken three individuals into custody, and one of them, 34‑year‑old Asif from Tughlakabad, sustained a gunshot wound during a police confrontation and is now receiving treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre.
How the crime unfolded
According to investigators, the girl visited Kalkaji Temple accompanied by a minor male friend. After completing their prayers, the pair entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate No 7. There, three men approached them, claiming to be police officers, and issued threats.
The alleged perpetrators separated the girl from her friend and led her to a secluded spot within the park. Police allege that Asif brandished a weapon, threatened the victim, and proceeded to sexually assault her. The other two men are also accused of taking part in the assault before fleeing the scene.
Police action and the ensuing encounter
Following a tip‑off, officers from Amar Colony Police Station rushed to Astha Kunj. The victim was immediately transported to AIIMS for a medical examination, while crime‑scene investigators collected forensic evidence.
Later, authorities received intelligence indicating Asif’s presence near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. A police team surrounded the area and attempted to detain him. Asif allegedly tried to escape, firing three rounds at the officers. One bullet struck the bullet‑proof jacket of Head Constable Rajesh, prompting the officer to fire back in self‑defence. A shot hit Asif’s leg, and he was subsequently taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre for care.
Ongoing investigation
The police have lodged an FIR and are conducting a thorough probe. Preliminary medical reports place the girl’s age between 16 and 17 years. Interrogations of the three accused are underway to reconstruct the complete sequence of events.
