Body discovered inside a parked vehicle

Authorities were alerted to a lifeless individual inside a car parked in Friends Colony, close to the Jamuna Palace complex. When officers from the Rajiv Nagar police station arrived, they observed a gunshot wound on the victim and seized a handgun from the vicinity.

Who the victim was

The deceased was identified as Alok Kumar, a former engineer who retired as General Manager of Coal India. Born in Motihari, Kumar had settled in Ranchi after his service and was officially listed as a resident of the Indira Nagar police‑station area in Gonda, near Kanke Road.

Family says he travelled to Patna to meet his sister

Alok’s brother‑in‑law, Vinod Kumar, lives in Flat 302, F‑Block of Vidya Vihar Apartments—the same neighbourhood where the car was located. According to Vinod, Alok arrived in Patna about two nights earlier, having visited the city roughly fifteen days prior. He had come to see his sister, who lives nearby. Kumar’s wife had passed away earlier, and his son resides outside Patna.

On the morning the body was found, Kumar reportedly set out for his routine walk and never returned. His remains were later located inside the stationary car beneath Jamuna Palace.

Police secure the area and summon forensic specialists

Following the grim discovery, officers cordoned off the scene and began collecting physical evidence. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory was dispatched to document the site, retrieve the recovered firearm, and gather any biological traces.

Investigators review CCTV footage and interview acquaintances

Authorities are scrutinising footage from surveillance cameras installed around Friends Colony to piece together Kumar’s movements from his arrival to the point the vehicle was abandoned. They are also interviewing relatives, neighbours, and anyone who may have interacted with him in the days leading up to his death.

Cause of death remains under investigation

At present, police are treating the case as an open inquiry, weighing the possibilities of suicide against potential foul play. The final conclusion will depend on the autopsy report, forensic analysis of the pistol and ballistics, and any additional evidence uncovered during the ongoing probe.
