Ghazipur – A joint operation by the district’s SWAT team and Kotwali police resulted in the detention of three local suspects believed to be transporting a sizable consignment of illegal weapons into the city.

Large‑Scale Arms Confiscation

The raid took place close to Kaithwalia Pulia, where officers uncovered a stash of 38 firearms. The haul included 19 pistols, 19 country‑manufactured guns and 18 cartridges. Authorities also seized three mobile phones, a motorcycle and a modest amount of cash amounting to ₹900.

Suspects Attempted Escape, Were Cornered

A tip received on Thursday night warned of an imminent weapons drop. Acting on the information, SWAT commander Shailendra Pratap Singh and Crime Inspector Devendra Kumar Mishra sealed off the area. When the three men, riding a motorcycle, realized they were being monitored, they tried to flee. The rapid‑response unit had already surrounded the location, compelling the suspects to surrender without any violence.

New Leads and Ongoing Operations

All three detainees are residents of Ghazipur and are thought to be linked to an inter‑state smuggling network that sources weapons from Khandwa and Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh. Interrogation revealed the existence of two additional accomplices. Consequently, police raids have been launched in nearby villages to locate the remaining members and dismantle the broader syndicate.

These arrests form part of a district‑wide crackdown ordered by the police chief, aimed at halting the flow of unregistered arms across state borders.
