Lucknow – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today commissioned a squadron of 87 high‑tech interceptor motorcycles and cars at Lok Bhavan, signalling a decisive step toward a digitally‑enabled policing model in Uttar Pradesh. The mix of four‑wheelers and two‑wheelers is intended to sharpen traffic monitoring, boost road‑safety enforcement, and reinforce police presence across the state.

Technology‑Driven Policing at the Forefront

Addressing a gathering of senior officials and journalists, the CM traced the state’s law‑and‑order journey since his 2017 mandate and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to overhaul police operations with modern tools. He praised the police commissionerate framework as a platform that demands strategic planning, decisive leadership, and state‑of‑the‑art equipment to safeguard development and civic life.

Smart Interceptor Fleet

The newly unveiled interceptors come fitted with sophisticated surveillance kits, GPS‑based tracking, and real‑time communication systems. They will patrol busy arterial routes, congested junctions and other high‑risk corridors, instantly feeding data to Integrated Command and Control Centres.

Adityanath also highlighted the broader Safe City programme, noting that several districts already operate command hubs that aid both preventive patrols and investigative actions.

Celebrating Valor and Service

The ceremony featured a medal ceremony for police personnel who have displayed outstanding bravery. Posthumously, the late STF Inspector Sunil Kumar Singh was awarded the Kirti Chakra, with his family receiving the honour on his behalf.

In addition, the event marked the launch of former DGP Prakash Singh’s memoir Sangharsh, an unvarnished account of police reforms and his decades‑long career on the force.

Road‑Safety Remains a Priority

Confronting the persistent challenge of traffic fatalities, the chief minister stressed that technology‑enabled enforcement, combined with vigilant monitoring, is essential to curb deaths on the road. Deploying the 87 interceptors forms a cornerstone of Uttar Pradesh’s wider strategy to modernise traffic management and protect commuters.

Through these initiatives, Uttar Pradesh aims to set a benchmark for contemporary policing, marrying traditional courage with digital precision.
