Acting on a directive from the Gurugram Police Commissioner, a special task force uncovered a hidden network that was moving municipal waste and recyclable plastics from Delhi into Gurugram for unlawful dumping and sorting. The operation culminated in the arrest of ten suspects and the impoundment of seven transport vehicles.
How the Sweep Unfolded
Teams set up checkpoints and conducted surprise raids at several entry gates, stopping trucks that appeared to be carrying mixed refuse. Investigators say the accused shuttled a blend of household garbage and plastic scrap from Delhi to multiple sites inside Gurugram, where the plastic was extracted before being forwarded to other destinations.
Legal Actions Initiated
Four First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed in connection with the bust. Two were lodged at Bajghera police station, while additional complaints were registered at Udyog Vihar and Rajendra Park stations.
Vehicles Confiscated
The raids resulted in the seizure of seven vehicles, comprising both canters and tractor‑trolleys. Police are now tracing ownership documents and examining how these rigs were integrated into the illicit waste‑transport chain.
Widening the Probe
Beyond the ten arrests, investigators are interrogating additional suspects to map the full extent of the network. They are scrutinising collection points in Delhi, the routes used to ferry waste into Gurugram, and the ultimate buyers of the segregated material. The owners of the seized trucks are also under investigation, and further legal steps will follow if culpability is established.
Political Backdrop
The crackdown aligns with a directive from Haryana Chief Minister Nayan Singh Saini to curb the inflow of out‑of‑state waste into Gurugram. The state government has intensified its focus on the city’s waste‑management woes and is determined to clamp down on illegal dumping practices.
Police officials have assured the public that the anti‑illegal‑waste drive will persist, with more arrests and vehicle seizures anticipated as the investigation expands.
